Our client, a leading consultancy to the defence sector is looking to recruit several systems engineers for a large submarine project based in Barrow. Long-term contract with rates negotiable.
The Successor Deterrent Programme is being established as a collaboration between MoD and Industry to deliver the early stages of the SSBN design. This unique approach requires the extensive application of Systems Engineering techniques at the Whole Boat level, principally in the areas of Requirements and Acceptance Management, System Architecture development, Functional Analysis, and a range of general Systems Co-ordination and Integration tasks. The programme thus has a number of Systems Engineering positions available, and both experienced Systems Engineers and Systems Engineers relatively early in their career are being sought. Specific Roles will be determined based on background experience and capability. Candidates will be expected to work within the project's Systems Engineering toolsets which include DOORS and SYSTEM ARCHITECT, and to interface with engineers and managers from a wide range of differing disciplines and organisations, including the MoD and other contractors. Key responsibilities are to be determined based on specific candidates capabilities and background, but will include a number of tasks from the following: " Development of whole platform System Requirement (including justification/source information) and whole boat Assurance and Acceptance criteria " Production and Maintenance of OA studies Requirements and Outputs Register " Development of Sub-System Requirement Sets linked to the whole platform System Requirements " Development and maintenance of Verification Cross Reference Index providing a trace of System Requirements into the design and evidence of design compliance " Development and maintenance of whole boat process documents, including related Design Strategy/Policy Papers " Generation and Management of Functional Models, including the Successor Functional Model, and ASTUTE and VANGUARD reference models. " Development and Implementation of Internal and External Interface Processes and supporting Documentation " Development and Maintenance of System Architecture Definition and Product Breakdown Structure(s) and Specification Tree " Development and Maintenance of Specification Tree " Co-ordination and rationalisation of Design For Rules and Design Principles and collation of evidence of Design Compliance " Production of, or input to, Option Assessment Reports, and documentation assessing and justifying the emergent design The successful candidates will: " Be professional systems engineers or equivalent with either extensive experience of large systems projects and familiarity with the areas of work scoped above, or with a clear capability to work on such projects. " Have good interpersonal communication skills, and be able to interface effectively with a wide range of industry and MoD stakeholders from different disciplines. " Have demonstrably good clear thinking and problem resolution skills. " If not Barrow based, be expected to recognise that the Design Team is Barrow based, and be willing to travel as necessary to ensure effective conduct and management of their own area of work.
